Professor Yan Xiaofeng was invited to the Nankai Forum of Eminent Scholars in Marxist Studies for academic exchanges.

On the afternoon of March 12th, Professor Yan Xiaofeng, Dean of the School of Marxism at Tianjin University, was invited  to the Nankai Forum of Eminent Scholars in Marxist Studies to give a lecture on the topic of "Making good use of reference handouts and teaching well the course of   Introduction to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era ". The purpose of this lecture is to closely follow the Reference Handout of Introduction to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and to deeply discuss how to make the course of Introduction to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era profound, thorough and vivid, and effectively promote the improvement of quality and efficiency of ideological and political education course in colleges and universities. Professor Yu Yifan, Executive Vice President of the School of Marxism, presided over this forum.


Yan Xiaofeng first made a comprehensive interpretation of the Reference Handout, and introduced in detail the compilation process and main purpose of the Handout. He pointed out that "Reference Lecture Notes" is a tool book to assist the teaching of "Introduction to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era" course, which is compiled in the tone of a lecture notes, in which the content of each chapter accurately corresponds to the textbook chapters and gives the suggested hours and classroom introduction,  providing operational guidance for teachers' teaching. He summarized the characteristics of "Reference Lecture Notes", such as "problem-oriented, progressive, advancing with the times, close to reality", and explained it in detail with examples from specific chapters of the lecture notes.

Yan Xiaofeng also specifically explained how to "improve the lecture discourse system" and other issues. He proposed that the ideological and political course should make the abstract concepts realistic and the requirements of principlesconcrete, and build a unique discourse system different from document discourse, thesis discourse, textbook discourse and speech discourse, so as to achieve the teaching effect of students' "loving to listen and learn, listening and understanding". We should be close to real life and practical problems, follow the cognitive process from perceptual knowledge to rational knowledge, combine abstract theory with concrete reality, and accurately grasp the balance between "reasoning" and "telling stories".

At the end of the lecture, Yan Xiaofeng and the participating teachers conducted  in-depth discussions on a series of issues such as "the teaching case of ideological and political course" and "the difference in the acceptance level of ideological and political course among the students from different subject backgrounds", which provided many enlightening insights and ideas for teachers to answer questions.
