From 6 to 9 July 2024, the School of Marxism held the ‘2024 National Outstanding College Students Summer Camp’, in which more than a hundred outstanding students from various colleges and universities across the country who have ambition to engage in the research and education of Marxist theory were enrolled to study and exchange views on basic theoretical issues and major practical issues of Marxist theory, CPC history and party building, and other related disciplines. The camp was designed to broadenthe campers' academic horizons and exam in their basic professional knowledge and comprehensive abilities by means of thematic academic reports, academic exchanges in professional groups, symposiums for teachers and students, and interviews and examinations. At the end of camp, some outstanding campers would be selected out from them.
On 7 July, the opening ceremony of the summer camp was held in the multi-function hall of the East Business Building on the Jinnan Campus of Nankai University. Wang Xinsheng, former Vice President of Nankai University and Dean of the School of Marxism, Fu Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Sun Shoutao, Vice Dean of the School, Xiao Guangwen, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Lan Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of theSchool, Hu Yingxin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the School, and Ma Mengfei, Director of the Department of Undergraduate Teaching, took part in the opening ceremony which was was hosted by Vice Dean Sun Shoutao.
Fu Hong, on behalf of the college, welcomed all the campers and hoped that, through the summer camp activities, the outstanding students from all over the country would better understand the history and sentiment of Nankai University, learn more about the School of Marxism and the disciplines of Marxist theory and other related disciplines experience the academic atmosphere and cultural heritage of Nankai University, and show their own style in the study, communication and investigation of this summer camp at the same time. Wang Aolei, the representative of previous excellent campers and a master's degree student of the School of Marxism of Nankai University, and Zhang Ziyin, the representative of the present campers and an undergraduate student of the School of Marxism of Shandong University, and Zhang Jialin, an undergraduate student of the School of Marxism of Nankai University, made speeches one after another.
The camp invited well-known professors and scholars of the college to give keynote speeches and academic seminars for the campers.
Professor Wang Xinsheng, Distinguished Professor under Yangtze River Scholar Program of Ministry of Education, leading talent of the National ‘10000 Talent Project’, cultural celebrities of ‘4 ‘a group’ Talent Plan’ , former Vice President of Nankai University, Dean of the School of Marxism, , gave a lecture on the theme of ‘why to read postgraduates in the College of Marxism?’. He pointed out that master's degree students should turn to research-oriented learning. For academic research, master degree students should master the basic theory and classical literature with a clear sense of the problem and integrate learning the thinking during the research. He meticulously explained the characteristics of academic research in disciplines related to Marxist theory for the campers from the dimensions of universality and particularity, and put forward valuable suggestions for the campers' future study and research.
Professor Liu Fengyi, Distinguished Professor under Yangtze River Scholar Program of Ministry of Education expert of the Research and Development Programs in Marxist Theory , Director of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of Nankai University, and the winner of Baogang Outstanding Teacher Award, gave an academic lecture on the theme of ‘How to Understand High-Quality Development of the Economy?’. He pointed out that high-quality development is the primary task of building a modern socialist country in a comprehensive manner, and then profoundly explained the theoretical connotation of high-quality development of China's economy from four aspects: what is high-quality development of the economy, why our country must take the road of high-quality development, the content of high-quality development of China's economy, and how to promote the high-quality development of China's economy.
Professor Zhang Jian, winner of the Tianjin ‘May 1st’ Labour Medal, the 2019 Baogang Outstanding Teacher Award, and the 2017 ‘Teaching Pioneer of Ideological and Political Theory Courses in National Colleges and Universities’, introduced the campers to the tradition of running education and the contemporary revelation of centuries-old Nankai University . He introduced to the campers the persistence and inheritance of Nankai University in the past hundred years from the three aspects of the tradition of founding the school with patriotism, the tradition of educating people with ability, and the tradition of academics with the knowledge of China and service to China, further deepening the campers' understanding of Nankai University and the School of Marxism.
Academic exchange activities on the theme of discipline grouping were also held. Professor Chen Hong, Director of the Department of Basic Theory of Marxism, introduced the disciplines, majors, and faculty strength of the Department of Basic Theory of Marxism and made an academic report with the theme of ‘Understanding China's Reform and Opening-up’; Professor Xiao Guangwen, Deputy Director of the Research Department of the Sinicization of Marxism, introduced the disciplines, majors, and faculty strength of the Research Department of the the Sinicization of Marxism and made an academic report with the theme of ‘A Few Thoughts on the Sinicization of Marxism’’; Associate Professor Chang Yanhui of the Research Department of Ideological and Political Education introduced the disciplines ,majors and faculty strength of the Research Department of Ideological and Political Education, and gave an academic report entitled ‘Basic Issues of the Research into Marx and Engels’s Practices of Ideological and Political Education’. In each sub-group venue, teachers and students actively interacted with each other.
Hu Yingxin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the , introduced the ‘five-in-one’ pattern of the College in empowering students' development from five aspects: academic development support system, innovation and practice support system, comprehensive quality development support system, honor system for awarding and evaluating excellence, and job-seeking and employment guidance system. Ma Mengfei, Director of the Department of Undergraduate Teaching, introduced the basic situation of the School of Marxism, the selection of this summer camp, and exchanged views with the campers and answered their questions .
On 8 July, the School of Marxism organized a comprehensive interview and assessment for the campers.
