From June 28, to July 1, 2023, the School of Marxism of Nankai University held the 2023 National Summer Camp for Outstanding College Students. More than 100 outstanding college students from 36 well-known universities participated, including Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, Lanzhou University, Jilin University, and Nankai University. This summer camp broadened campers’ academic horizons through academic reports, subject introductions, exchanges and seminars, examined their abilities and qualities through comprehensive interviews, and finally selected some excellent campers as candidates for 2024 graduate students.
On the morning of June 29, the opening ceremony was held at the Jinnan Campus of Nankai University. Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism Fu Hong, Dean of the School of Marxism Liu Fengyi, Deputy Dean of the School of Marxism Sun Shoutao, Deputy Dean of the School of Marxism Wang Shengsheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Wang Youjiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Xiao Guangwen, and Deputy Dean of the School of Marxism Lan Hao attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Dean Yu Yifan, and Professor Fu Hong delivered a speech on behalf of the School.
In her speech, Professor Fu Hong welcomed the campers, hoping that they could better understand the history of Nankai University, the School of Marxism of Nankai University and the subject of Marxist theory through this summer camp. She emphasized that the spirit of Nankai University is patriotism. She hoped that the campers could show their personal style in the learning, communication and investigation of the camp.
Zhang Yumeng, the student from the School of Marxism of Jilin University, spoke as a representative of the campers.
After the opening ceremony, Professor Liu Fengyi gave an academic report on the theme of “Promoting Chinese-style Modernization through High-Quality Development”. He emphasized that high-quality development is one of the essential requirements of Chinese-style modernization and China’s economy must pursue the path of high-quality development. He pointed out that development in line with the new development philosophy is high-quality development and gave an in-depth analysis of how to promote high-quality development.
On the afternoon of June 29th, thematic academic exchange activities were held. Professor Chen Hong introduced the Research Department of Basic Theory of Marxism and gave an academic report on the theme of “Interpreting the Financial Crisis”. Associate Professor Xiao Guangwen introduced the Research Department of Sinicization of Marxism and gave an academic report on some basic issues of Sinicization of Marxism. Associate Professor Chang Yanhui introduced the discipline of Ideological and Political Education and gave an academic report on the theme of “Frontiers and Research Experience of Ideological and Political Education”. During the activities, teachers and students actively exchanged and discussed.
Then, Associate Professor Xiao Guangwen introduced the century-old history of Nankai University. Deputy Dean Wang Youjiang introduced the "five-in-one" pattern of student development. Professor Yu Yifan introduced the graduate training system of the School of Marxism and the selection situation of excellent campers.
Finally, the School of Marxism organized a comprehensive interview for all campers and selected some more outstanding campers as candidates for 2024 graduate students.
The School of Marxism of Nankai University is one of the first batch of national key Marxist school, with strong teaching staff and many scientific research platforms. Since 2018, the “National Summer Camp for Outstanding College Students” activities have promoted the learning and exchange of college students and selected a lot of outstanding students for further study.
